Meet SEWN member…
Chelsea Brooke Roisum Photography
Chelsea Roisum didn’t even think of herself as a photographer until other people began to ask her to take pictures of and for them.
Born and raised in Richmond, Chelsea had very little exposure to the Sunshine Coast other than a quick visit to Gibsons some years ago. Recently, a spontaneous camping trip with her young son, Douglas, gave her the chance to fall in love with the coast, just in time for son #2 to come along.
“Since my family was in limbo with where to nest, we checked Craigslist to see if anything was for rent and found a perfect little 3 bedroom house tucked away off Redroofs Road.” On June 6th, a couple weeks after baby Aubrey was born, the family moved to the coast.
“This place is truly magical and the feeling I have when being here lets me know that we are on the right track.”
Chelsea has always loved to travel and when she began to share her travel photos on Facebook she was surprised when people approached her, on the strength of those images, to photograph them and their events.
“8 years later, I have photographed over 100 weddings in places and cultures as diverse as Taiwan, the Congo, Rwanda, Italy, Cuba, Australia and more.” Because she is an on-location photographer, Chelsea can literally run her business from anywhere and being so close to Vancouver is an added convenience.
“Within my business my passion is capturing people and details. Other than moments of love, I am drawn to capturing chandeliers, wine glasses, crystals, flowers and nature. My goal is to decorate hotels, wine bars, restaurants and homes with art that spreads joy with the sparkle from the picture.”
Chelsea says that while becoming a professional photographer just happened naturally, she finds the business side continues to be her learning curve. At the same time she is evolving as an artist, entrepreneur and mother. Her son, Douglas, served as a mini assistant for a shoot in Costa Rica, prompting the natural, warm smiles she was looking for. Chelsea looks forward to including both her boys in future adventures.
Her involvement with SEWN gives her a chance to share her art and her gift of capturing authentic portraits with all the lovely women on the Coast. She hopes to meet and capture images for many of you that you can use for business, special memories, or art for your walls.
