Meet SEWN member…
BORN ON THE COAST
Marisa Hudson was lucky enough to have been born and raised on the Sunshine Coast. Although she has travelled the world she says her inner compass always points back here.
While she’s not technically an entrepreneur, as a Commercial Lender with the Credit Union she works closely with local business owners and start-ups.
“While I’m not an entrepreneur I have the privilege of working with many. I see women who leap in to the business world with both feet first and tackle issues with no fear; I find their tenacity tremendously motivating. I think women have a capacity to throw their whole being into a project, to commit so fully to their businesses that the web of inspiration that radiates from such dedication is as much a success as their financial goals. Women also have an inordinate ability to boost each other up, we’re natural teachers, natural mentors and natural cheerleaders.”
Marisa started as a teller with the credit union and then got the chance to join the commercial lending department where she grew to be a passionate advocate for local business on the coast.
“This small group of people were so committed to supporting local business on the Sunshine Coast I couldn’t help but be inspired to do the same. We have a responsibility as members of this community to do all we can to support local enterprise in the towns where we live and work. Small business is the backbone of our economy and there are so many hardworking people who want to contribute and create jobs and grow industry; I love that as a Commercial Lender I get to play a small part in their journey. Investing our time, money and effort into our local economy is crucial to the area’s future success. As someone who grew up on the Sunshine Coast and has seen it change over the decades it is clear to me how each one of us has an important part to play in the vitality of our community.”
Working in the financial world, Marisa sees the effects of technological change every day. She believes SEWN can be an antidote to the isolation that technology can bring.
“Our world is hurtling towards a new reality where remote and online presence is often the first and primary point of contact for personal as well as business relationships. As human beings we require contact, physical connection to build trust and confidence as well as to impart wisdom we’ve learned to the other members of our tribe. SEWN has the capacity to facilitate connection, mentorship, learning, and support. We are in a unique position to bring our membership together to collaborate ideas and strategies, to share vulnerabilities and strengths. Our true strength as an organization is in our members and they are a group of amazing people with a vast wealth of knowledge and experience.”
