Sarah Casorso
Time to Glow Mobile Spa
Family ties brought Sarah Casorso to the Sunshine Coast when she was 11 years old, and then brought her back as a new mom, to be with her mom at a time of crisis.
Her mother needed a kidney and pancreas transplant so the family moved from Prince George to be close to Vancouver, but not in the city so they chose Sechelt.
At 20, Sarah left the coast to attend the Blanche Macdonald school, achieving her Aesthetic Spa Diploma, and commuting back and forth to Sechelt.
Because the Sunshine Coast doesn’t have a spa that is busy year round, Sarah started looking for steady work, and a chance to hone her esthetician skills. She had been at the Kingfisher Oceanside Resort and Spa in Courtenay Comox for about 4 years, was newly pregnant, when she heard the devastating news that her mother’s heath was again precarious. Her mother was put into an induced coma for 4 weeks and, naturally, Sarah dropped everything to be there.
“The doctors didn’t know if she was going to pull through,” recalls Sarah, “but the thought of her first grandchild was the push she needed to fight for her life.” She won that fight and Sarah realized it was time to come home to be close to family once again. Now she was back to square one in terms of career and also had Preston, to consider.
“When my maternity was coming to an end I had to think, “Well, what now?” Luckily I found the self-employment program and was eligible.” Sarah is incredibly grateful to Cheryl McNicol and all the others at the Employment Center who helped her on her journey to create a full service mobile spa. Yes, mobile; she brings her service to you!
Not only has Sarah created a business that supports her and allows her to use her abundant gifts, it also brings her a tremendous amount of joy. She takes pleasure in helping make people feel amazing, and supporting self-care which so many of us working women neglect.
SEWN is a natural fit for Sarah; in her work and in her network she craves connection, inspiration and belonging. “I find that having a connection to other women who are driven and motivated, like me, brings so much inspiration. Our community is amazing and all the women in SEWN are wonderful”
On the family side, Preston is now 4 years old and loves to camp and hike with his mom. As for Sarah’s mom, she continues to soldier on, undergoing dialysis 4 days a week for 4 hours at a time and waiting for news that a kidney might be available to her for transplant. “She’s been so sick her whole life,” says Sarah, “but always tries to stay positive.”
